Question:

So i’ve been living with my girlfriend for about two years now, We’ve been in a conflict for about a month in a half now. Well her best friend brought over this guy and anytime he shows up, which is a lot. She completely ignores me and i really don’t understand the way she acts. I’ll admit I’ve had jealousy moments in the past, I’ve got nothing against him, but I really don’t have anything for him either. And every now and then within the past month or so i’ve had a number of panic attacks, and some strange mood swings. She tells me she wants her distance but I dunno if I really trust her or not. Small things keep showing up saying not to. I love her more than anything no doubt. I told her how I felt about him, then we got into a huge discussion on our relationship. She wants to put our relationship on a stand n’ still, while we figure out who we are. And that we should work on being good friends before we’re intimate. I understand that i may not of totally respected her boundaries. But she means the world to me, and i just want to be by her side. And i know somewhere she loves me to, but i’m am just so confused. Because what if I do stay back and thats the end, u know? What should I do, what can I do?

I feel for you and I have been in my share of similar relationships. The question you must ask yourself is, “do I really want to be in this relationship?” Because what you have right now is a Relation-Canoe. It is sinking and you know if. That is why you are in conflict with each other. See, in life and in relationships you are either growing or dieing. Everything either grows or dies. There is no in between. So obviously you both have let this relationship die and now it is sinking. So if you do want to save this relationship. Then you MUST do what it takes. Obviously you did this in the beginning because this is how you got the girl in the first place. Too many men meet a girl; woo them over by taking them out, going on picnics, movies, having date nights. but then they get busy with life and stop doing those things and let the relationship die. I go over this in my book “How to Attract the Person of Your Dreams, and Keep Them!” “Keep Them” is important! I have instructions on how to do this in Secret #14: “Create a Menu of Fun!” You must do this. Create a list of all the things you could do to win her over all over again. But make sure you prove to her that this will not just be a temporary thing. That this will last. That you will have a date night every week no matter what! Schedule it every Friday or Saturday night and stick to it no matter what, even if you both are tired, then just go to the movies on that night. Have fun with it!

Think of a relation-ship as a ship, a ship you’re going to sail through in this life.  If you were going to sail in this ship, this relation-ship, with only one person for the next 60-70+ years or the rest of your life, how carefully would you choose your shipmate?  Would you take the first person that said, let’s go?  Would you take someone that might jump off the ship?  Then you would have to sail the ship yourself, stop at every port, and try to find a new shipmate.  Wouldn’t you want to make sure the person you decided to sail with, is as committed to be on the ship as you are?  Or maybe it’s you that needs to be committed to staying on the ship and not jumping off.  That would not be a relation-ship.  You would be sailing in a relation-Canoe.  How well do you think a canoe will do in a storm?  Not very well, I’m afraid.  Just like the relationship; it will sink.

You must both be committed to the relationship.  That means no threatening to jump off the ship when it starts to shake and take on water.  No saying things like, if you do this again or say that again then I will jump off this ship!  That is not a commitment.  You must both be committed and it will take work.  But it is worth it.

Think of a house as being the relationship and the trees, flowers, butterflies, beautiful blue sky, and the birds chirping; are all love. What holds a house together? “NAILS!”  Nails are the commitment.  So, when you attract a person of your dreams into your life, don’t jump ship during the first storm.  And make the decision to sail through life with them;  be committed to them and share that commitment with them forever.

Question from Jennifer Mullen:

I’m 29 and have been married to my husband for 3 years.  We have a 2 year old and one on the way.  I believe that we have a good solid relationship. But I think my husband feels differently. I think he’s a little disappointed in our relationship, most especially in me.  He’s expressed many times that he wished that we had a more passionate sex life. I have to admit that a big part of this is my fault since sex isn’t something I particularly enjoy.  He says that he understands that my feelings are probably stemming from my past but thinks I should see someone and get help.  My first 13 years i lived with my biological parents.  My father was very abusive physically, emotionally and sexually.  I went through years of counseling and feel that I’ve overcome most of it.  The only thing that I still deal with is being sexually intimate with someone.  I’m usually tense and wishing that it’ll be over soon. I know that my husband has a right to feel what he is feeling but it adds more pressure on me. I would love to enjoy being intimate with him (he’s the only person I’ve ever been with) and have a great sexual relationship. I just don’t know how to go about changing how I feel.

Thank you for taking the time to write in for help. I agree with your husband and feel this is something that must be worked through. I am so sorry to hear what has happened to you in your past. This is not something that will go away and this is something that will be passed on to your children even without telling them. I have seen it too many times where the kids take on the baggage of what happens to there parents in there past. We want to get through this and become stronger than ever from it. I know it doesn’t sound like it right now, but you will grow stronger through this if you choose to. There is a lesson in everything in life and we grow from it if we choose to listen. You must work through this and this is not something you can do on your own. I can give you some simple things to do to get past this fast. When you do then you will be able to truly experience your husband on a whole new level. When you do this it is the merging of 2 people into one new person. This is what marriage is about. The merging of 2 into 1. That is why it is important to grow through this so you can take this new path in your life and make sure that your children will not repeat this in there life and skip it. Otherwise it is just repeated from generation to generation in one-way or another.
